Damaged Harper aircraft, C. This picture was taken by an adjacent waist gunner a moment after Harper's plane was hit by flak in the left inboard engine on their way to the target. You can see the smoke trailing from it as the plane began to tumble out of formation. Fortunately the propeller on the damaged engine was able to be feathered, and they limped back to the field.
